Lisa Tynan is a talented writer with proven expertise in web copy, blogs, newsletters, press releases and social media management. She also knows the value of doing what you love.
After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in Psychology, Lisa spent over ten years working in Human Resources, primarily as a recruiter but also writing benefit documents, employee manuals and other company communications whenever possible.
She dreamed about writing as a career, but never acted on it until a string of challenging experiences pushed her in a new direction.
Life’s Unpredictable Challenges
Lisa’s shift into writing began one morning with a phone call from her husband’s co-worker. “Lisa, you need to come up here. We think your husband’s had a stroke.”
Earlier that morning her husband–a healthy man who didn’t smoke, didn’t drink and liked to exercise–was riding his bike before work. He turned his head quickly to check for cars and tore his right carotid artery. The tear threw a clot into his brain causing the stroke. It was a scary and trying time. Recovery was slow. He’s back to work but now deals with numbness on his left side, lack of mobility in his left hand, and the many other challenges of living with a brain injury.
The following year, Lisa was laid off from her Human Resources job. While pondering her next move, her then five-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Lisa spent the next 12 months learning how to care for her daughter and manage the disease.
At about the same time, Lisa’s mother was declared legally blind and needed Lisa’s help and support whenever possible.
The Good–After The Bad And The Ugly
Lisa knew she needed the flexibility to earn money while also handling the more demanding needs of her family. She found the solution in her current role as a virtual writer. Using her positive attitude and determination, Lisa was hired by the first company she applied to and impressed people right out of the gate with her communication skills, work ethic and writing abilities.
One such satisfied client is Kathy Goughenour, founder of Expert VA Training. “I had to get six press releases out in two weeks to promote my online training program. Thank goodness I hired Lisa Tynan to write them for me. She came up with timely topics, pulled the information she needed from my website, and produced brilliantly worded press releases. In other words, she did all the work and saved me tons of time. Her work ethic and writing and communication skills are outstanding!”
Lisa now happily uses her writing and marketing talents to help her clients create and maintain visibility in the marketplace and generate increased success. She’s loved every minute and believes she wouldn’t be living her dream without first wading through her nightmare.
Along with her writing, Lisa also indulges her creative side by singing every weekend in her church’s contemporary music ensemble and making jewelry when time permits. She also teaches religious education to first graders–and often learns more from them than they do from her.
Eventually, Lisa would like to write and publish a novel. Until then, she’s enjoying life in Massachusetts with her husband, two children and two grey tiger cats. (There’s also a Great Dane puppy in her future, but don’t tell her husband.)
